 Data Creation Minimize
Data are the essential building blocks that help you reach informed decisions. If your GIS staff requires outside support, call on CGIA to build, maintain, verify and improve the geographic information and databases you require.
Project Examples
STRMP_thumb.jpg How Do We Improve North Carolina’s Surface Water Maps?
Client – NC General Assembly

CGIA managed a project to create a more accurate map of rivers, streams and other water bodies for 19 counties in western North Carolina. The project leveraged the State’s investments in statewide elevation data (using LiDAR technology) and the digital aerial imagery resources of counties and the state. Local government stakeholders contributed ancillary datasets to refine the placement of hydrographic features.

Client – Clean Water Management Trust Fund

CGIA created a custom GIS capability for the CWMTF and the public, and developed new data layers to help the CWMTF evaluate grant proposals, track funded projects, and communicate results. CGIA provides ongoing support with GIS products for meetings of the Trustees and data updates.

Building A Statewide Master Address Database
Client – NC General Assembly

CGIA, in collaboration with the Office of State Budget & Management, developed a NC Master Address dataset representing a compilation of the best available representation of situs addresses and their location. Cooperating county and municipal governments were the source of the data. In addition to a dataset that will support the upcoming 2010 Census, the outcome included a comprehensive and flexible workflow for ingesting and managing address-related data. The process has been specifically designed to be adaptable for meeting business requirements of state and local agencies. Each person added to the Census’ NC population count represents $10,000 in federal funding for North Carolina over the next decade.
